Perception is never a simple contact of the mind with the existing object, it is fully loaded with memory images that complete and interpret it.
Henri Bergson, Philosopher, 1859-1941
In 600 years of history, oil painting has lost nothing of its topicality. The canvas is the carrier of flicker-free pictures that continue to radiate calmly, even when the power has long been switched off. The motionless picture, correctly composed, creates the illusion of space and movement in the mind of the fascinated observer. Now the associative power of the figurative set pieces can fully unfold and convey the message.
Pure depiction is not an artistic position. An effective work of art must unfold strong associative forces in the viewer. This is just as true for representational works as it is for abstract ones. The "right" unusual arrangement of seemingly familiar objects is my means of achieving this.
